Garhwal, Uttarakhand
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas, set in a glacial valley beneath the Kedar range at 3,583 metres.
Kedarnath sits at the head of the Mandakini valley, reached by a 16-kilometre trek from Gaurikund or a short helicopter flight from Phata and Sersi. The stone temple, framed by the Kedarnath peaks, is among the most revered Shiva shrines in India and the highest of the Char Dham. The journey asks a little more of travellers than the other dhams, which is why we plan it with buffer days, acclimatisation halts and clear guidance on ponies, palanquins and helicopter options for those who need them.
