Garhwal, Uttarakhand
The abode of Vishnu on the banks of the Alaknanda, with Neelkanth peak rising behind the temple.
Badrinath is the final stop of the traditional Char Dham circuit and the most accessible by road. The temple's colourful facade faces the Alaknanda, and the hot springs of Tapt Kund lie just below it. Mana, the last Indian village before the Tibetan border, is a short drive away and worth an unhurried afternoon. We usually pair Badrinath with a stay at Joshimath or Pipalkoti so that the final approach is made fresh in the morning.
