Garhwal, Uttarakhand
India's best-known ski slopes in winter and wildflower meadows in summer, facing Nanda Devi.
Auli sits above Joshimath at around 2,800 metres, reached by one of Asia's longer cable cars. In winter the slopes draw skiers of all levels; from May to October the same meadows are green and the walk to Gorson Bugyal is one of the most rewarding easy hikes in Garhwal. The panorama of Nanda Devi, Kamet and Dronagiri is exceptional on a clear morning.
